Business cards are still one of the most powerful networking tools in Singapore — but with so many paper types, finishes, sizes and printing technologies available, knowing what to order can be confusing. This guide covers everything: materials, finishes, sizes, special formats and what questions to ask before you order.
Standard business card size in Singapore
The standard business card size in Singapore is 90mm × 54mm — the same size used across most of Asia and internationally. This fits standard cardholders, wallets and name card holders without any trimming.
Some businesses use slightly narrower or taller cards for a distinctive look, but 90mm × 54mm is what most recipients expect and what most card storage systems are designed for. Stick with this size unless you have a deliberate design reason to deviate.
Business card paper — which material should you choose?
The material is the single biggest factor in how your business card looks and feels. ExpressPrint offers more material options than most printers in Singapore — here’s what each one does:
Art Card 310gsm — the standard choice
The most popular business card stock in Singapore. Thick, stiff and professional — holds its shape well and feels substantial in the hand. Smooth coated surface with vivid colour reproduction. The right choice for most businesses.
Art Card 350gsm — extra thick
Noticeably heavier and more rigid than 310gsm. Creates a premium first impression — ideal for finance, legal, luxury retail and anyone who wants their card to feel more substantial than the competition’s.
Matt Art Card 350gsm — matte finish
Same thickness as 350gsm but with a non-reflective matte surface. Sophisticated and understated — popular with creatives, architects and minimalist brands. Slightly less vivid for photos but excellent for typography-heavy designs.
Woodsfree / Uncoated — writable surface
Uncoated paper with a natural texture. Can be written on with pen — useful if you want to add handwritten notes on the back. More casual and approachable feel. Popular for educators, consultants and creative freelancers.
Kraft — eco and artisan look
Natural brown recycled paper with an organic, earthy feel. Very distinctive — immediately communicates sustainability and craftsmanship. Popular for eco-conscious brands, artisan F&B, handmade products and independent businesses.
PVC / Synthetic — durable and waterproof
Plastic card stock that is waterproof, tear-resistant and extremely durable. Will not warp, bend or degrade in humid conditions — a real advantage in Singapore’s climate. Popular for outdoor businesses, trades, F&B and anyone whose cards get handled frequently in demanding conditions.
Translucent — see-through effect
Semi-transparent frosted material. Immediately striking and memorable — very few people have seen a translucent business card before. Works best with minimal, clean designs where the transparency adds to the aesthetic rather than competing with it.
Black Core — luxury edge
A premium card stock with a distinctive black layer through the middle — visible at the edges. When you hold it up, the black edge is immediately visible and signals premium quality. Popular with luxury brands, financial services and anyone who wants a card that stands out from the stack.
Cotton / Letterpress stock — ultra-premium texture
Made from cotton fibre rather than wood pulp — exceptionally soft, tactile and distinctive. The material of choice for luxury letterpress printing. Reserved for high-end clients where the card itself is a brand statement.
Lamination and finishes
Most business cards in Singapore are printed on Art Card and then laminated. Lamination protects the card and dramatically changes how it looks and feels.
Gloss lamination
Shiny, reflective surface. Makes colours pop and images vibrant. The most common lamination in Singapore — professional and clean.
Matt lamination
Non-reflective, velvety surface. Feels premium and sophisticated. Very popular with professional services, law firms, consultants and luxury brands.
Soft touch lamination
Ultra-matte surface with a silky, almost rubber-like feel. One of the most tactilely distinctive finishes available — people comment on it immediately.
Spot UV
A glossy UV coating applied selectively to specific design elements — logo, name or pattern — on top of a matt laminated card. Creates a striking contrast between matte and gloss areas. Premium and distinctive.
What printing technology matters — HP Indigo vs standard digital
Most business card printers in Singapore use standard digital printing — toner-based machines that produce decent but not exceptional results. ExpressPrint uses HP Indigo for business card printing — a liquid electrophotography process that produces significantly sharper text, smoother gradients and more accurate colour reproduction than standard toner.
The difference is most visible on fine text, thin lines and brand colours. If your card has small text, intricate logos or specific Pantone colours that need to be matched accurately, HP Indigo produces noticeably better results. It is also the standard used for offset-quality short run printing in professional environments.
Types of business cards available in Singapore
The classic 90mm × 54mm card printed on your choice of material. HP Indigo printing with 8 material options. The right choice for most businesses — professional, versatile and fast.
Same day or next day business card printing. Digital printing for fast turnaround — ideal when you need cards urgently for an event, meeting or last-minute order. Order before the cutoff time for same or next day collection.
A business card that folds open to double the print area. When closed it looks and feels like a standard card — when opened it reveals additional content: extended bio, service list, map, QR code or product showcase. Popular with consultants, real estate agents and anyone who needs more space than a standard card allows.
A business card cut to a custom shape — not the standard rectangle. Round corners, rounded rectangles, or a completely custom outline that matches your brand. Die-cut cards stand out immediately in a pile of standard rectangles and are remembered longer.
A business card with an embedded NFC chip — tap it to any NFC-enabled smartphone and it instantly opens your contact details, LinkedIn profile, website or any URL you choose. No app needed. Works on all modern iPhones and Android devices. A growing choice for tech-forward professionals and anyone who wants contactless, always-updated contact sharing.
How many business cards should you order?
The most common quantities in Singapore are 100, 200, 500 and 1,000. The unit cost drops significantly as quantity increases — 500 cards is often less than twice the price of 100 — so ordering more than you think you need is usually the right decision.
A useful guideline: active networkers hand out 5–10 cards per week. At that rate, 500 cards lasts about a year. If your details change frequently, order smaller quantities more often. If your details are stable, ordering 500–1,000 at a time gives you the best cost per card.
